I have always admired pirates when I was a kid.
When I was younger, I remembered those fantasies of being able to travel the world and exploring places no one was able to go or even dared go to,
these were places unreachable to man except for those daring pirates.
I used to love the notion of being a pirate myself, Sailing the open seas, Finding lost treasure, Fighting their enemies and their rivals
Most of all I valued their freedom. But slowly as I grow old of course I realized this is impossible or if not I would have needed to be labelled a criminal to do so.
Thus that fantasy ended in just a memory, or did it?
By the time I gained the power to make an earning for myself. Step by step I slowly started to go to other places. Of course with what little budget I had.
I could only go to parts of our country. Good thing our country has an endless array of places filled with awesome and wonder. It also fuelled my spirit with one of my passions: photography.
Then time went on and I was able to work for a company that is affiliated with a Japanese corporation. I was fortunate enough to be one of the few who was assigned to work there.
As a geek and an otaku it was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Being able to a place that was only in my fantasy, only being able to catch a glimpse of its culture from the anime that I watch.
By the time I went there, my eyes got more open. I was immersed with such a rich culture that it has changed me. How I viewed myself, my life and the world itself.
Travel was still not one of my priorities that time, but unconsciously the places I've been through started to change me, and slowly I'm starting to crave that type of lifestyle a little more.
The pirate in me is starting to get awakened again. It was not until I got into a relationship with my girlfriend that my passion for travel has truly been awakened. She was so passionate about it that she used
to go to adventures every weekend.
I realized how the world is truly wonderful and how we can all go there and live the life that we seek if we truly wanted to.
Now in my 20s, I realized, I can still live the dream and possess the qualities that pirates in fiction had. To sail the seas with my nakama, with the ones who are truly important to me and create lasting memories.
How we can let the places and culture change us for the better and make us able to see a better view of the world.
This one goes to all my fellow pirates who got lost at sea at one point in their lives. Don't lose your compass, continue to pursue your destination. Be the captain of your ship and see what great adventures lies in wait.

"Wherever we want to go, we go. That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and hull and a deck and sails. That's what a ship needs. But what a ship is.. what the Black Pearl really is.. is freedom." - Jack Sparrow
